- Bush arrives in Calgary
Updated: Tue Mar. 17 2009 01:13:17
Former U.S. president George W. Bush spent Monday night dining in a northwest Calgary restaurant.
The president is in the city to speak with Calgary's business elite at a luncheon on Tuesday.
But he spent his first evening back in Calgary since the G-8 Summit dining at an Italian restaurant in Kensington.
Bush spent roughly two hours inside, eating pasta, drinking water, and talking with customers and staff members.
"He was a great gentleman. He was alot taller than I expected. But he was personable, down to earth. No fluff. No BS." said patron Patrick Bruce-Lockhart http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20090317/CGY_bush_calgary_090316/20090317/?hub=CalgaryHome

- Bush 'jovial and friendly' at Calgary eatery prior to Tuesday's speech
On the eve of his first public address since leaving office, former U.S. president George W. Bush dined on pasta and fruit salad in Calgary's Kensington area Monday.
Bush, three dinner guests and a throng of secret service agents spent nearly two hours in a private room at Osteria de Medici restaurant on 10th Street N.W.
While a small crowd grew outside, intrigued by the heavy police presence throughout Kensington, Bush was a"jovial and friendly"guest inside, chit chatting and posing for photos with staff. http://www.thestarphoenix.com/Bush+jovial+friendly+Calgary+eatery+prior+Tuesday+speech/1397776/story.html

- Calgary protesters prepare for Bush visit
By Gwendolyn Richards, Calgary HeraldMarch 13, 2009
A series of events aimed at protesting the impending visit of former United States president George W. Bush to Calgary launched Thursday afternoon with a short-lived demonstration on downtown's Stephen Avenue.
Hanging two banners--one black to reflect the events that unfolded while the United States was helmed by Bush and one white bearing messages looking toward the future--peace activists tried to engage passers-by.
According to Toby Pollet, a former peacekeeper who served in Croatia and Yugoslavia, Bush should be facing war crimes charges under the Canadian Criminal Code.
"Now we're inviting him here for a chat. It's ridiculous," he said as he helped hang the black banner http://www.calgaryherald.com/business/Calgary+protesters+prepare+Bush+visit/1385169/story.html[/b]

- Bush refuses to criticize Obama in Canada
By ROB GILLIES – 55 minutes ago
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Former President George W. Bush said he won't criticize President Barack Obama because Obama "deserves my silence," and said he plans to write a book about the 12 toughest decisions he made in office. Bush declined to critique the Obama administration Tuesday in his first speech since leaving office. Former Vice President Dick Cheney has said that Obama's decisions are threatening America's safety.
"I'm not going to spend my time criticizing him. There are plenty of critics in the arena," Bush said. "He deserves my silence."
Bush said he wants Obama to succeed and said it's important that he has that support. Talk-show host Rush Limbaugh has said he hoped Obama would fail. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iRghxDIirnsZXrslueuDLhDW72AwD9702OA80 - Citation :
- Bush defends decision to invade Iraq
DAWN WALTON Globe and Mail Update March 17, 2009 at 6:33 PM EDT
Calgary — Former U.S. president George W. Bush defended his decision to invade Iraq, said “risk takers,” not government are needed to salvage the world economy and offered his advice to current U.S. administration during a luncheon speech in Calgary.
In his first public address since U.S. President Barack Obama moved into the White House, Mr. Bush was greeted with a standing ovation when he took the podium by close to 2,000 guests who paid $4,000 per table.
“This is my maiden voyage. My first speech since I was the president of the United States and I couldn't think of a better place to give it than Calgary, Canada,” he said to applause.
The invite-only event titled a “Conversation with George W. Bush” was banned to the press and organizers were coy about providing details leading up to the event. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090317.wbushwalton0317/BNStory/politics/home

BUSH PRAISES 'SOBER' CANADA Ex-president greeted as hero, villain in Calgary appearance Kevin Libin, National Post
Outside of Calgary's Telus Convention Centre yesterday, the enemies of George W. Bush protested loudly and angrily. Inside, in his first speech in his post-presidential career, the 43rd U. S. president reaffirmed his passionate commitment to exactly the same firm values, beliefs and policies that for years drove these critics mad, and, apparently, continue to.
He did so with a smile and self-deprecating jokes, at times with a preacher's fervour, and frequently to the approving applause of the sort of enthusiastic fan base not easily found outside of the former president's Texas hometown. Perhaps not even there. A speaking engagement in Calgary, Mr. Bush would joke to the crowd, "was my only choice." http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=1399779 Et sa queue de castor elle etait comment?
